The idea that whenever anyone suffers from anything must mean that they sinned is found even in Jesus' time. Unfortunately, there is nothing in Scripture that points to suffering always coming from your sin. Of course we are all sinful, but we live in a broken world where suffering is simply part. We will all suffer...do we really need to add to that suffering by making the person feel that their suffering is always a self-inflicted wound?
