The Gift - Part 2

December 8, 2024 • Pastor Mike Calo • Isaiah 53:6, Matthew 2:10–11

Today, we're gonna talk about the gift of MYRRH

which many people probably don't know anything about.

Myrrh is a valuable gum-like substance

that's actually talked about 17 different times in the Bible.

Occasionally, myrrh would have been used as an antiseptic.

For example, if you know the story on Jesus on the cross,

they offered Him wine mixed with myrrh to dull the pain

but Jesus rejected that because he wanted to bear

the full force and weight of our sins.

More commonly though, myrrh was known as

an ingredient used to embalm the dead.

In other words, myrrh would have been used

to help prepare Jesus’ body for burial,

so myrrh, represents Jesus as the suffering servant

or the Lamb of God who was born to die

for the forgiveness of our sins.
