On Sunday we are fortunate to have a guest preacher, Rev. Justin Edgar from https://www.citypresabq.com/ in Albuquerque. This is his introduction of Psalm 143:
I have a low tolerance for the dark. Whether it is dark emotions…sadness, frustration, low grade anger, anxiety, fear…when I run head on into these, my tendency is to find artificial lights to cope. Food, drink, shopping, tv, phone…anything to get my mind off of it.
But what if renewal begins in the dark. What if God brings us into these places in His mercy, because this is where His renewing work begins.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

The Church and the Keys of the Kingdom - Danny Morgan Ordination
March 6, 2022 • Rev. Josh Hahne • Matthew 16:13–20, Matthew 18:15–20
This Sunday Danny Morgan will be ordained to be a minister of the gospel! As such, we’ll be taking a break from our Something More sermon series in order to consider Jesus words in Matthew 16:19, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
It’s going to be a great Sunday. Grab a friend and join us at 10am.

For Beggers and Children
January 30, 2022 • Rev. Paul Kim, Rev. Adam Feichtmann • Luke 18:9–30, Luke 18:35–43
This Sunday Redeemer will have two worship services: our normal service in Newport Beach and a special service in Palm Springs for the 80+ guys attending our Men’s Retreat!
In Newport Beach, we are excited to announce that the Rev. Paul Kim, from Redeemer City to City Los Angeles, will be preaching. He will teach from Luke 18:9-30, 35-43, and gave us the following teaser…
This passage speaks to how we only come to Jesus as beggars, children, tax collectors—bankrupt, marginalized, condemned. But we unwittingly bring our “middle-class sensibilities” into our relationship with Jesus, which is a danger. The only way we come to Jesus is like a child, humbled and bankrupt. In this season of feeling weak, out-of-control, dependent, perhaps financially or physically threatened, there may be a spiritual opportunity to embrace the weakness. This is good for our souls, especially for those who are diligent and accomplished.
In Palm Springs, we are excited to have the Rev. Dr. Peter Leithart teaching on the book of Revelation for the whole weekend, but specifically preaching on Revelation 6:9-11 on Sunday morning. He gave us the following teaser…
Sunday’s Sermon is the Triumph of the Witnesses. When Jesus opens the fifth seal, John sees martyrs beneath the altar, crying for vindication. Revelation portrays God's answer to their prayer, following the martyrs as they ascend to heavenly thrones to reign with Christ.
I look forward to both attending the Men’s Retreat and worshiping with the rest of you this Sunday morning in Newport Beach!

Give thanks in every season!
Thanksgiving is upon us, reminding us how important it is have a spirit of gratitude rather than entitlement.
This Sunday we have the privilege of hearing a sermon on giving thanks from Pastor Derek Rishmawy, our RUF Campus Minister at UCI. To best prepare for Sunday, read and pray through Psalm 136 and 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
I look forward to worshiping, in joy and gratitude, with you all this Sunday!

This Sunday is a momentous day in the life of our church.
Josh Hahne will be installed as Redeemer’s third Senior Pastor!
To celebrate and be a part of the installation service, we are honored to have Rev. Pat Roach, a PCA pastor from Portland and close friend of Josh, preach for us. Pat will preach a sermon from Mark 5:1-20 on Jesus’ work in each of us and in his Church.
To best prepare for Sunday, take 5 minutes to read, meditate, and pray through Mark 5:1-20. While you are praying, please also make a point to pray for Pastor Josh, his family, and our church.
Plan to stick around after the worship service for a celebratory lunch to welcome Josh Hahne. Ministry tables will also be set up with information on how to get connected this fall with various small group options and ministries of our church.
I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday!

Like a Mustard Seed
July 14, 2019 • Rev. Josh Hahne
BIG NEWS…
This Sunday the Rev. Josh Hahne will be preaching and leading elements of the liturgy at Redeemer!
Josh is our senior pastor candidate who was unanimously recommended by our pastoral search committee (PSC), session, and staff.
Plan to stick around after the worship service to enjoy our annual all-church summer lunch and meet Josh and his family.
To prepare for Josh’s sermon, read, meditate, and pray through Mark 4:30-32. As you do, reflect on how these verses describe what the Kingdom of God is like, how Jesus Christ has established that kingdom, and what impact that has for your life.
I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday!

Sighing into Singing
February 10, 2019 • Rev. Chad Brewer
How long, O Lord?
Have you ever prayed that prayer? If so, you are not alone.
King David knew what it felt like to pray and cry out and wonder what God was doing, or maybe what God wasn't doing.
This Sunday Pastor Chad Brewer will be preaching on King David's prayer from Psalm 13. Take a few minutes to simply sit with this psalm, this prayer. Remind yourself that you are not alone when you pray "How long?", and more importantly, notice how King David concludes his prayer. His final words are hopeful in the midst of distress, and the same can be true for us today.
I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday!

The Burning Bush. It is a scene that always amazes me. A bush on fire, yet not consumed, and has the voice of God coming out of it!
On this final Sunday of the church calendar year, prior to entering Advent in December, we have the honor of hearing Rev. Chad Brewer, RUF Campus Minister at UCI, preach to us from the burning bush story in Exodus 3:1-15. To prepare for Sunday's sermon spend 5-10 minutes reading, meditating, and praying though this text and try to focus your attention on the character and person of God. Who is God and how does he reveal himself to us in this story?
I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday!

Finding the Glory of Jesus
November 18, 2018 • Rev. Alex Watlington
"You do not know what you are asking?" Has someone ever said those words to you?
Jesus said those words to two of his disciples, James and John, and easily would say it to us if we were to ask for the same thing. The conversation is recorded in the Gospel of Mark 10:35-45, as these two disciples want glory for themselves. Jesus reminds them that to be glorified, to be made great, first means to lay one's life down and become a slave of all. If that is what it means to be made great, do you want to that?
This Sunday I am excited to welcome Rev. Alex Watlington, RUF Campus Minister at USC, back to preach his second sermon on the glory of Jesus Christ! To best prepare for this sermon, spend 5-10 minutes to read, meditate, and pray through the Gospel of Mark 10:35-45. As you do, reflect on how being first in life also means being a slave of all.
I look forward to worshiping with you all this Sunday!

Death and Life
September 23, 2018 • Rev. Chad Brewer
Life is precious. How do you want to use the days which you have been given?
This Sunday we have the joy of hearing from Rev. Chad Brewer, RUF Campus Minister at UCI, preach to us on the topic of death and life. We will be taking a one week break from our fall sermon series on Praying the Lord's Prayer to look at Psalm 90 and reflect carefully on how we spend our days and time. To best prepare for this sermon, spend 5 minutes reading, meditating, praying through Psalm 90 and how you live your life.
I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday!
