Lent Midweek Series

Obedience

March 29, 2023 • Pastor Daniel Ondov • Psalm 119:1–8, Ephesians 4:1–6, Matthew 26:36–46

On this last week in the At the Crossroads series, Jesus nears the time when he must die for our sins and he asks his Father if the cup might pass from him. But when the time comes, he obeys his Father’s will. When we are called upon to follow God’s will, we must obey. Let the readings from Scripture, sermon dialog with John and hymns help us come to the crossroads of declaration ready to follow God’s plan for us wholeheartedly.

Declaration

March 22, 2023 • Pastor Daniel Ondov • Isaiah 6:1–8, Acts 2:22–28, Luke 22:54–62

In the Passion narrative, Peter is asked to declare whether or not he knows Jesus and he decides to deny his Savior. When questioned about our Lord, we are called to boldly declare our faith in Christ. Let the readings from Scripture, sermon dialog with Peter, and hymns help us come to the crossroads of declaration ready to announce our allegiance to the Lord.

Compassion

March 15, 2023 • Pastor Chad Ott • Isaiah 61:1–3, Colossians 3:12–17, Luke 22:47–51

This week, Jesus chooses to show compassion to a wounded participant in his own arrest. We are called to show compassion, not anger, even to those in our midst whom we might consider our enemies. Let the readings from Scripture, sermon dialog with the servant Malchus who was healed, and hymns help us to come to the crossroads of compassion ready to love others as Christ loved us.

Judgement

This week in our At the Crossroads series, Pontius Pilate is called upon by the crowds to make a judgment call about Jesus, and his decision not to decide results in the death of Christ. We look to the cross of Christ as we make definitive judgment calls in our lives. Let the readings from Scripture, sermon dialog with Pilate, and hymns help us come to the crossroads of judgment ready to be guided by divine wisdom.

Betrayal

March 1, 2023 • Pastor Daniel Ondov • Isaiah 33:13–16, 1 Peter 2:9–10, John 13:21–30

In this second week of our At the Crossroads series, Judas Iscariot comes to the point where he must either listen to Jesus or listen to the devil and he chooses to betray Jesus. When we are tempted by Satan to betray our Lord, we gain strength from our Savior to say, “No” to the devil. Let this service’s Scripture, sermon dialog with Judas, and hymns help us avoid the crossroads of betrayal.
