DAY 6 - Today’s devotional was written by Melissa, Children’s Ministry Leader of RLM, and today’s reading is: John 2:1-12. Jesus says yes to His mother, and He will say yes to us when we have His heart.
"On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days." [John 2:1-12 NIV]
The bond between Mary and Jesus indeed offers a profound insight into the essence of love and faith. Mary's humility and trust in God's plan, despite her imperfections, set a remarkable example for all parents. To welcome the Messiah into the world required immense courage and unwavering belief. Jesus, in turn, honored His mother with a deep respect and obedience that reflected His divine purpose.
The dialogue between Mary and Jesus at the wedding in Cana reveals a tender exchange that showcases their unique relationship. Mary's simple request led Jesus to perform His first miracle, transforming water into wine. This act of love and grace highlights the power of faith and the willingness of Jesus to say “yes” to those He holds dear.
Just as Jesus responded to Mary's plea, He stands ready to respond to our own needs and desires. Through His sacrifice on the cross, He has already given us the ultimate gift of salvation. By embracing His love and grace, we can experience the joy and abundance that come from celebrating the goodness of God.
1. Do you have any specific needs and desires that you want to express to Jesus today?
2. Ask Holy Spirit to help you discern how deeply you trust in Jesus’ ability and desire to respond to your needs. Reflect on what He reveals.
