13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that[b] they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Sin is ravaging our world and it shows up in so many ways. Sometimes we focus too much on the “ism” (racism, sexism, alcoholism, etc..) and never get to the root of the problem; which is sin! That is why we need to look at the Bible and learn from it. Scripture is either prescriptive, teaching how something should be, or descriptive, describing how something happened. We can have hope when we read the Word of God and learn from the stories and people it talks about.

Is Believing the Facts Enough?

Are you saved and how do you know? Is believing the facts enough to save you? Intellectual assent is not enough. Belief is more than that. True belief means you TRUST what Jesus Christ did on the cross is true, your sins are forgiven, and you become a child of God.
