The wisest person in history once said, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” The physical health of our heart matters and the same is true for the spiritual health of our heart. What Your Words Say About You

The words that we speak can carry lots of power, but Jesus shows us that our words are also revealing. They reveal the more deeply rooted issue of what's going on inside the heart. Matthew 15:10-12 Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” Luke 6:43-45 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." - Jesus

Having an Open Heart

Would you say there was a time in your life when you felt closer to God than you do right now? What happened? Just like when we visit the doctor and they check our heart, God wants to check the spiritual condition of our heart. In the parable of the sower and the seed Jesus challenges us to examine the condition of our heart - is it hard, is it shallow, is it crowded, or is it open? An open heart will always say, "I will do what God says even when it's hard." Matthew 13:3-9 "A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear." - Jesus Luke 8:12-15 "Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop." - Jesus Ezekiel 36:26-27 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.
