Good Friday: Why Are You Afraid?

Matthew 27:32-50

In Matthew 27:32-50, the reality of the cross is that Jesus really *died." His death disheartened the disciples, but it brought a new reality - HOPE. And yet, in those dark moments of the cross, God was dealing with sin, death, and hopelessness. Jesus asked His disciples during His ministry, "Why are you afraid?" From the cross, He declared, "It is finished." Death defeated. Sin vanquished. Fear no more.

We call this day Good Friday. But what makes Good Friday, good? At first glance, it isn’t good at all. What is good about Jesus dying alone, humiliated, in excruciating pain, mocked and treated like a common criminal? However, through Jesus we can now never be separated from the love of God. He has won the only victory that matters. And that is why Good Friday is good.
