Sermon Title: “The Power of God’s Love" (Pastor Bob)

Summary:

Who is the most loving person you know? Why do you view them that way? Is it because they love you despite how much you have sinned against them? We think God shows his greatest power in the destruction and punishment of the wicked. His greatest power is seen in taking the wickedness of this world on His shoulders and giving back love. Isaiah in this text answers the question, “How can the gracious promises of God come true for guilty people?” (Raymond Ortlund Jr.). Isaiah tells us this Servant of the Lord, though marred beyond recognition, rejected by people, and died innocent of any crime, was also our sin-bearer. It may have been a human plot to kill him, but going to the cross for our sins was also a divine strategy. His death produced life in us. How and what did Jesus feel about the Father’s plan? Isaiah 53:11 says: “Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities."

Sermon Title: “True Worship” (Pastor Bob) Sermon Text: Isaiah 66:1-24 Summary: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and it was perfect. We ruined it! We thought we could define for ourselves what our existence is and what it should be. This leads us into false worship. We worship the creation rather than the Creator. We worship ourselves instead of the God who, despite our mess up, provides us a Savior who crushes the head of the serpent. If we want to be a part of God’s glorious future for His people, we need to practice true worship. Every part of a worship service based on the Word of God is worship—singing, preaching, listening to preaching, practicing what is preached. True worship is not based solely on our liturgy but whether or not we have a contrite heart, a deeply reverent listening to the Word of God. We should tremble at God’s Word with reverential fear and overwhelming joy. True worship declares the glory of God. There are only two choices. Will our life be summed up as a life of false worship or true worship? God will destroy false worship and those who practice it. Our end is either heaven or hell. It is not as complicated as some make it.

Sermon Title: “The Eager God” (Pastor Bob) Sermon Text: Isaiah 65:1-25 Summary: We underestimate the eagerness of God to save sinners. God holds out his hands all day long to a rebellious people. He is ready to be sought by those who did not ask for Him. He is ready to be found by those who did not seek Him. People are not just victims of bad luck. They are souls in need of a massive intervention. It is like the words of that old hymn: “I sought the Lord, and afterward I knew, He moved my soul to seek him, seeking me; It was not I that found, O Savior true; no, I was found of thee.” God puts His eagerness to save us this way so we might stand on a New Heaven and a New Earth: Isaah 65:24-25 says: “Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear. The wolf and the lamb shall graze together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain, says the LORD.”

Sermon Title: “Longing for God” (Pastor Bob) Summary: How does revival in our lives and in the life of the church happen? It happens like Isaiah 64:1 says it happens. It happens when God comes down to us. His presence brings revival and the reality of it reaches every bone of our body. It happens when God shakes heaven and earth by His presence, like water coming to a boil, making His name known among His enemies, causing nations to tremble before Him. Revival happens when God changes His enemies into worshippers. Isaiah longs for God to do this; he prays for God to do it. He longs for the love of God, the presence of God, and the touch of God. Do we? He longs for God to descend upon the earth. Do we? Isaiah wants us to pray the same prayer he is praying. The Bible teaches us how to pray, what to pray, and to have confidence when we pray. The Bible tells us our God wants us to experience His presence in a powerful way so the revival of our hearts and life are complete.
