We Want A King!

1 Samuel 8

April 7, 2024 • David Horner • 1 Samuel 8

At the end of the period of the Judges, Israel demanded that the prophet Samuel appoint for them a king so that they could be like all the other nations and have someone to fight their battles. Their motivation for a king revealed that they had rejected their true King – God – who had called them to holiness and who had never lost a battle. Today, we often look to a host of things and people to appoint "King" in our life – someone or something that can bring us peace, security, and happiness. These "Kings" end up taking from us until we become enslaved to them. But God is the King who gives – and this is seen most clearly in the God-man, Jesus Christ who gave his life as a ransom for many on the cross. Is God YOUR King?

Peter described the Christian life as the life of an exile. Since our citizenship is in heaven, all those in Christ live as exiles on this earth. This week Pastor David preaches a message about "Living in Exile" from 1 Samuel 19.
