In a key transition point in the gospel of Matthew we see a consequence of the rejection of Jesus as the Messiah-King. From this point forward He began to speak in parables and in doing so He hid the hope of the Kingdom of God from most of the listeners. Many view the teaching aspect of discipleship as merely reading through a book with someone in a coffee shop. However, it is far more broad, and involves opening up your entire life to a person. This sermon explores the concept of teaching, and calls the church to consider how they can best obey this principle in its multi-faceted aspects.

Jesus' instruction to the church is clear - make disciples! It is the over-arching directive for the Church. Techniques to build the Church about in our day. Yet Jesus gives three key truths for how this task is to be accomplished. We are to rest in His authority, trust in His method, and bank on His promise to provide. Becoming a disciple of Jesus is a call to leave everything and enter a life of risk. Yet, ironically, it is the only enterprise Jesus has promised to bless. The goal of this sermon is to help every Christian understand they are a missionary, which necessarily involves an intentional reorientation of their entire life for the purpose of faithful mission.
