Peter warns the church to be on guard so we don’t fall from our steadfastness of mind, knowledge, truth and faith.
2 Peter 3:17 Therefore, [let me warn you] beloved, knowing these things beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of [c]unprincipled men [who distort doctrine] and fall from your own steadfastness [of mind, knowledge, truth, and faith], 18 but grow [spiritually mature] in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory (honor, majesty, splendor), both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
Grow Up!

Peter’s final instructions are to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Ah, yes, spiritual maturity—That’s easy, right? Fortunately he gives us insight on how to do it.

Like a Thief
October 9, 2022 • Pastor Richie Box
We’ve seen doomsday movies. Heard many predictions on how everything will go down for planet Earth. The Bible says it ends with a Bang! But it’s not the end!
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 2 Peter 3:10
Mockers and Christ's Return 2 Peter 3:1-9
October 2, 2022 • Pastor Richie Box
From the subject of false teachers and prophets in chapter 2, Peter now writes about those who will be mocking the 2nd coming of Jesus. Scoffers. Trash-talkers. It seems these folk will always be with us; even up to the day of His return. How do we live among them? What’s our message since we are closer than ever before to His emanate return?
Slaves of Deception promising Freedom?
September 18, 2022 • Pastor Richie Box
Paul finishes his discourse on the deception of false teachers. They speak, "great swelling words of emptiness”. The Amplified bible says, "[pompous words disguised to sound scholarly or profound, but meaning nothing and containing no spiritual truth].”
Those who live by God’s Truth enter into more and more freedom, but those who live by lies experience more and more bondage.
Spots and Blemishes

The depravity of the false teachers in Peter’s day is breathtaking. He does not hold back in describing them, even calling them "brute beasts”. They have followed the way of Balaam—the prophet in the Old Testament that was scolded by his donkey. I know, right? He sold his prophetic powers to the pagan king Balak for money. Needless to say, he never got to enjoy it.
2 Petr 2:15 forsaking the right way, they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; NASB

Peter spends a good amount of time alerting the church to the doom of false teachers and the deliverance of His people from temptation. Good news for us. He is able to deliver us today and save us tomorrow. Hallelujah!
Living in the Light of His Coming: False Prophets and Teachers Among You - Part 2

Peter warns the early church to beware of false prophets and teachers. The best way to avoid them is to know the Word of God. But what does prophecy look like in the church today? How do we recognize prophecy gone wrong?
False Prophets and Teachers Among you.
August 21, 2022 • Pastor Richie Box
Since many will follow their sensuality, Peter warns the early church to beware of false prophets and teachers. The best way to avoid them is to know the Word of God. Let’s look at there “M.O”, that we will not be swept-up by their false teaching.
2 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. 2 Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; 3 and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
“Copy” Prophets and Doctrines

In chapter 1 of 1st Peter, Peter tells us they didn’t follow cunningly designed fables or myths when they explained the power and coming of Jesus Christ. Then he writes, “know this first of all no prophecy is a matter of one’s own interpretation or human will”, but what they spoke was, “God Breathed”. Next, he contrasts the truth with destructive doctrines from false teachers.
2nd Peter 1: 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture [m]becomes a matter of [n]someone’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
The Trustworthy Prophetic Word

A witness is someone who testifies to what they have seen and heard.
Peter writes that he was an eyewitness of the majesty of Christ. He saw His glory and heard the voice of the Father!
Like Peter, we can be confident in the Word of God since it came through men, moved by the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1: 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
How to Never Fall

“Add To”. Two simple words that speak to our responsibility to partner with the Holy Spirit to be and do the life of Christ. Learn what we are to add to our faith.

The Productive Life
July 17, 2022 • Pastor Richie Box
As a result of the godly resources through Christ our Source, Peter now tells us our responsibilities.
Wanna live a productive life in Christ? Let’s work.
2 Peter 1:5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral [g]excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if these qualitiesare yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Dynamic Life
July 10, 2022 • Pastor Richie Box
Today we begin our study in 2 Peter. He begins this short epistle by reminding the believers of what they already have in Christ.
Good reminder in these last days.
2 Peter 1: 3 For His divine power has bestowed on us [absolutely] everything necessary for [a dynamic spiritual] life and godliness, through [d]true and personal knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. AMP
