In chapter 1 of 1st Peter, Peter tells us they didn’t follow cunningly designed fables or myths when they explained the power and coming of Jesus Christ. Then he writes, “know this first of all no prophecy is a matter of one’s own interpretation or human will”, but what they spoke was, “God Breathed”. Next, he contrasts the truth with destructive doctrines from false teachers.
2nd Peter 1: 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture [m]becomes a matter of [n]someone’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Peter warns the church to be on guard so we don’t fall from our steadfastness of mind, knowledge, truth and faith. 2 Peter 3:17 Therefore, [let me warn you] beloved, knowing these things beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of [c]unprincipled men [who distort doctrine] and fall from your own steadfastness [of mind, knowledge, truth, and faith], 18 but grow [spiritually mature] in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory (honor, majesty, splendor), both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
