What is your favorite Christmas decoration? What about the story of Jesus does it represent? Many of our decorations have theological roots, and it can be a ton of fun to look them up and talk about it! Talk about how the ways we celebrate point to the truth of scripture, like Christmas lights and our verse today John 1:4-5. What does it mean for us that Jesus is the light of the world? Jesus is God, and so when He came to earth He brought God’s wisdom and truth  to bring light to our dark world. Talk through how Jesus Being God reveals to us the way we can live in truth and right before God. He literally lights the path for us!

Does the thing we are forgiving affect that? Jesus was born to fulfill God’s promise to save us from our sins. How can we celebrate that together this Christmas? Forgiveness and salvation aren’t always something we talk a lot about on Christmas, but it’s what Jesus came to do! Talk through ways your family can honor that part of the Christmas story. It can be something as small as a special ornament or as big as sharing the gospel with others!

Advent- Day 10

December 6, 2022 • Pastor Brandon • Psalm 33, Isaiah 5:18–25, Matthew 1:18–25

Advent family discussion questions: One of the things we do to celebrate Christmas is spend time with friends and family. Does spending time with people you love make Christmas more special? This question is hinting at how God made us for relationships, with Him and others. Talk through how spending time together at Christmas helps us appreciate the good things God made us for, like being with our loved ones! One of Jesus’ names is Immanuel, which means ‘God with us’. What does it teach us about God that He wants to be with us? God didn’t just make us for relationships with others, He wants us to know Him! Talk through how Jesus coming to dwell with us shows God’s love for us, and His desire for us to know Him.
