When we read through the gospels and see how each writer shares the story and coming of Jesus' birth, we see that together we get a complete picture of Jesus: the prophesized Messiah in Matthew, the Son of Man in Luke, and then, in John, we see the Son of God and the Word before time.

This particular representation in John really spoke to the culture at the time who had heard for many years of the prophesied Messiah. Senior Pastor Scott Hobbs brought the Word this week as we reflected on how the way John spoke of Jesus caught the attention of Jews and Greeks alike, but it should also remind us today of the One who is Hope, God with us.

As we get ready to turn the chapter into a new year, many will start the trend of a New Year's Resolution and though these well-intended goals may last for a little while, statistics show that most New Year's Resolutions dwindle away in about six weeks. This week, as we finished our Christmas series "The God Who Was, And Is, And Is to Come, Elder Rod Perry brought us the Word and a encouragement to not just adopt a resolution, but rather, live a lifestyle that is summarized by these three ideas: BE STILL, BE HUMBLE, and BE KIND! If we first begin with an attitude of stillness, allowing the Lord to speak to us through His Word, and then begin the practical steps of being humble before Him and others, showing kindness to everyone we meet, we will be able to walk in the mystery of what is to come, resting in our Father's plan for each of us, knowing that His ways are better and always perfect for us.

There was a never a plan B in God's plan to save the world! He gave His only Son and His coming was prophesied over and over again throughout the Bible. The voices speaking of His coming may have changed, but the message never did. God has been faithful to His Word! You can depend on Him. He has not failed you and He never will!

Kicking off the Christmas season, we can look around and see the awe and wonder of the lights and the beautiful decorations, but have we stopped to ask the question: "Who is Jesus to us?" In all the busyness and beauty of the season, have we really stopped to admire the awe and wonder of our Jesus? Do you see Him just as a baby in the manger or can you look beyond and see the cross, can you see Him in creation, and do you recognize that He is the One that is coming again? When you begin to see Jesus in every thread of our stories, we can be confident that He is the God who brings light to our darkness, who has a plan for our lives that fits into a greater Story that leads us to Home. As we begin this Christmas season, may we never lose the awe and wonder of our King!
