Today is the only day we have, and God promises to give us the strength to live it. He doesn't promise to give us the strength to keep reliving and refighting the battles of yesterday. Jesus promises to take away the burdens of the past so that we can do His will without being weighed down. God provides us with His grace and power for each day; He doesn't give it to us in advance so that we will rely on Him alone each day. Stay focused.
Society is facing the problem of anomie (literally, “without law”) – defined in our culture as an uprooting or breakdown of usual moral values, standards, or guidance for individuals in a society and the resulting social instability; people begin to feel old institutions are no longer functioning in a stable way, and they no longer can count on receiving the expected “rewards” for conforming to expected standards.
Life is full of situations where you must act better than you feel-- merely following your feelings can leave important things undone, and feelings can often lead to actions that hurt others. The attitude to want to do something you don’t like and learn to like it, plus the persistent action to seal the commitment, will lead to a successful change of heart.
Even the right attitudes don’t matter if they don’t lead to the right actions.
We live in a world of “ubiquitous ambivalence”- constant change, changing moralities, moral uncertainty, but also variable indifference to social forces; society is constantly changing, and Satan causes society to constantly test our spiritual compass; our spiritual “balance” is always being under assault - it’s easy to give in…or just give up.
