We have seen through Romans 8 that God is for us. But, will he always be for us? Romans 8 begins with “no condemnation” and ends with “no separation”. No one and nothing can ever separate us from God’s steadfast love. This assurance provides hope and confidence in a world filled with tribulation and distress.

We are in part two of facing life with confidence. Last week we asked the question, “How can a Christian face the suffering and difficulties of this world with confidence that God is for us?” We saw that there is hope for the future as adopted children of God, and that the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness today. This morning, we will be looking at a very famous verse for another reason we can face life with confidence as a Christian.

Verses 18–25 could be considered a subpoint or a parenthesis on the topic of adoption. While the Christian can be assured now that God is his Abba (vs. 16), the full realization and enjoyment of his adoption will not be attained until the “revealing of the sons of God” (vs. 19). Until that glorious day, the Christian groans…along with the rest of creation.
