Hello, Trouble

Father's Day 2019

June 16, 2019 • Peter Mueller

Today's message begins our new sumer series “Beaches, Boats, and BBQs of the Bible”. We will again look at some of the most well know and deeply loved stories of the Bible throughout the summer, focusing particularly on those that have a “summery” theme or location such as beaches, boat, and bbqs. So often we think that God only works in the ethereal netherland of some super spiritualized reality, but He specializes in working in the every day moments of our lives. On this Father’s Day, our message kicks off this series by looking at the story of Elijah fighting the baal prophets on Mt. Carmel. Like many dads today, he is up against seemingly insurmountable and impossible odds. Elijah finds out what is available to each of us as well, whether we are a dad or not - that when we rely on the power of God, even the greatest barriers and enemies can be overcome as we trust in Him.

On a Mission from God

Sometimes God calls us to do things that might involve great risk and great sacrifice. Others around us might think we are crazy or irresponsible or that it can’t be God leading us. And yet, Paul knew that He followed a crucified Messiah and was willing to suffer as he worked to make the name of Jesus known. While there are many blessings for those who follow Christ, we are also called to risk and even suffer as we follow Jesus and make His name known.
