For Christians who hear the loving and extraordinary words of grace from Jesus, but never read the whole Bible are often surprised at the existence of prayers of violence in the Psalms. What are we supposed to do with words like, "Blessed shall he be who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock!"?

We look at Judges and a theology of horror as we reflect on several gory stories with women–some as heroines, while others as victims. What can we gain from such gruesome stories and why are they in Scripture?
