The Publican & The Pharisee
February 23, 2024 • Con Mercouris • Luke 18:9–14
On the first Sunday of Triodion, the Parable of the Publican and the Pharisee is told. It conveys a clear message of humility, prayer, repentance, and thanksgiving. In this talk, Con Mercouris (student of St Andrews Greek Orthodox Theological College in NSW), contextualises the parable in two broader themes of the gospel; the Kingdom of God and reversal. He discusses the theme of repentance and God's invitation to the Kingdom of Heaven, exploring the text in further detail as well as the parable's meaning, characters, and setting.
