The Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ

Gospel Gratefulness

September 17, 2023 • Chad Kettler • Colossians 1:1–8

In this sermon, Pastor Chad Kettler introduces a 13-week study through Colossians. We hope this will rekindle your passion and love for Jesus Christ by reminding you of Christ's supremacy and sufficiency. Chad emphasizes that everything revolves around Jesus - our lives, eternity, and the church exist for Him. Chad then explains key gospel concepts like salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. He also discusses the importance of ongoing faith in Jesus and love for fellow believers as evidence of salvation. Chad stresses that fixing our hope in Christ fuels our faith and love. He encourages the church to turn their eyes to Jesus, their hope, rather than themselves.

A Worthy Walk

September 24, 2023 • Chris Meads • Colossians 1:9–14

In this sermon, Chris Meads unpacks Paul's prayer for the Colossian church to attain full spiritual maturity in Christ. Paul prays that believers would be filled with knowledge of God's will in order to live in a manner worthy and fully pleasing to the Lord. This means bearing fruit in all areas of life, deepening one's relationship with God, depending on His power to endure, and cultivating constant gratitude. Chris challenges listeners to consider if their life's pursuits align with the aim of knowing and doing God's will. He calls for prayerful dependence on the Spirit to equip Christians as fully mature spiritual adults who live undivided, fruitful lives that glorify God.

The Supremacy of Jesus Christ

October 1, 2023 • Chad Kettler • Colossians 1:15–20

In this sermon, Pastor Chad Kettler preaches on the supreme authority and lordship of Jesus Christ over all of creation, as described in Colossians 1:15-20. He explains that Christ is supreme by nature, being the perfect image and representation of the invisible God. Jesus is also supreme over all creation, as through him all things were created and exist. Furthermore, Christ is supreme in redemption, as the head of the church who reconciles all things to God through his sacrifice on the cross. Chad urges the congregation to fully submit to Christ's authority in every area of life with wholehearted devotion.

Reconciled Now, Not Later

October 8, 2023 • Chad Kettler • Colossians 1:21–23

In this sermon, Pastor Chad Kettler emphasizes the importance of spiritual endurance for Christians. He examines Colossians 1:21-23, noting that we were once enemies of God but have been reconciled to Him through faith in Christ's death on the cross. Now justified by grace, we have a righteous position in Christ and are being inwardly transformed to holiness by the Spirit. However, we must continue steadfastly in this faith, holding firmly to the gospel hope amidst temptation and false teachings. May we remember God's grace and pray for renewed passion to remain faithful to Christ through the Spirit's power.

The Secret is Out

October 15, 2023 • Chad Kettler • Colossians 1:24—2:5

Rooted in the Real Gospel

October 22, 2023 • Chad Kettler • Colossians 2:6–15

In this sermon, Pastor Chad Kettler emphasizes the true gospel of salvation by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ. He warns believers against false gospels promoted by deceivers, ranging from moralism to materialism to national exceptionalism. Kettler stresses that the biblical gospel centers on who Jesus is and what he accomplished in his incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, and cosmic lordship. He reminds Christians that they are saved, baptized, forgiven, and victorious through Christ's finished work, not their own efforts. Kettler urges believers to walk in grace, rooted in the true gospel, rejecting all distortions that take the focus off Jesus.

Christ Alone

October 29, 2023 • Jon Mindrup • Colossians 2:16–23

In this sermon, Pastor Jon Mindrup discusses resisting false teachings that infiltrate the church, using Paul's letter to the Colossians as an example. He notes that while the specific issues Paul addressed aren't all relevant today, the root problems still apply - adding human rules to the gospel and elevating self over Christ. Jon stresses pursuing Christ through obedience and denying ourselves, not seeking personal visions or glorifying our own ideas. He challenges believers to protect the pure gospel message and wholeheartedly follow Jesus, the head of the church, rather than forging our own path.

Seek The Things Above

November 5, 2023 • Chad Kettler • Colossians 3:1–4

In his sermon, Pastor Kettler warns about false teachers trying to eclipse the true gospel of Jesus Christ, either by adding extra requirements to it or by diminishing Christ's role. He explains that Christians have died to living under worldly regulations and rules. Their lives are now hidden in Christ, raised with him and seated with him in heaven. Christians should set their minds on heavenly things, not earthly requirements. Chad encourages Christians to freely share the gospel with others, since their lives are now found completely in Christ. He wants believers to remember their identity in Christ and not submit again to worldly ways of relating to God.

Why and How to Kill Your Sin

November 12, 2023 • Chad Kettler • Colossians 3:5–11

The sermon emphasizes that when someone becomes a Christian, it is like a death and resurrection - their old sinful life dies and they are reborn in Christ with a new identity and purpose. Christians are called to vigorously resist sinful desires and actions, including sexual immorality, greed, anger, and slander. They should do this not to earn salvation, but because they already have grace through Christ's finished work. The goal is to put on Christ's virtues and become more like Him. Our identity is now found in Christ alone.

The Christian's Clothing

November 19, 2023 • Chad Kettler • Colossians 3:12–17

In this sermon, Pastor Chad Kettler preaches about how Christians have put off their old sinful self and put on their new self in Christ. Quoting Colossians 3:12, Pastor Chad explains that believers are called to "put on" the virtues of Christ daily through the power of the Spirit, with their Christian practice matching their new position. He stresses that this fruit flows from abiding in Christ as the vine, not ourselves. Chad details the Christlike virtues Christians should increasingly display, like love, peace, and thankfulness. He concludes by praying that the church would walk in the righteous "clothes" of Christ's character for God's glory.

God's Design for Marriage

November 26, 2023 • Chad Kettler • Colossians 3:18–19

In this sermon, Pastor Chad expounds on Colossians 3:18-21, emphasizing God's design for Christian marriages and families. He explains that scripture calls for a complementary view of gender roles, with male headship and female submission, stressing that submission should be willing not coerced. Husbands must lovingly lead without domination, following Christ's sacrificial example, while wives should respectfully appeal to husbands rather than trying to control them. Healthy Christian marriages require authority and intimacy to reflect Christ's relationship with the church.

God's Design For Family

December 3, 2023 • Chad Kettler • Colossians 3:20–21

In this sermon, Pastor Chad examines the role of children and parents. Children should honor and obey their parents as an act of worship to Jesus, while parents should exercise gentle, patient spiritual leadership resembling God’s shepherding care. Despite human shortcomings, the gospel is sufficient to empower grace-filled parenting and obedient, believing children.
