Always Better

Who Do You Work For? (Johnson)

March 29, 2020 • Pastor Ben Johnson

We know that we all have to earn a living. You have to make ends meet. You must work or have an income that follows you into retirement. But the question is a good one, namely, “Who do you work for?” Our Gospel reading today reminds us that whatever we do for a living, like the first Apostles, in this Gospel, like Matthew (Levi) we are employed by the Lord Jesus in His work! And all of us would agree, working for Jesus is “Always Better” no matter what we do! Amen? Amen.

Trust Me (Johnson)

Though it may sound silly, sometimes we think we know better than God. Living in relationships such as bosses with workers, parents with children, friend with friend http://even...we can say that there are times when or the other knows better how things should be and should be handled. But not so with our Lord. We never “know better” than He does. In fact, today we’ll remember that leaning into God and trusting His every word is “Always Better” for us and for our lives.

Making Something Out of Nothing (Johnson)

March 15, 2020 • Pastor Ben Johnson

Let’s face the reality of our reality today! First of all, we must admit that even the poorest of us in this congregation is blessed beyond belief in comparison to the rest of the world. When we consider how much we have versus how little others http://have...we have to admit http://it...we are blessed! Amen? Amen. But that brings up the great curse of our http://lives...yes...our blessings can in fact be a curse. We can have a tendency to make something out of nothing when we make our blessings out to be more important than the giver of our blessings. The rich young man in our Gospel today did that very thing but the lesson of his life for us is that Jesus is “Always Better” than anything this world has to offer. Rich or poor or somewhere in http://between...jesus is “Always Better”http://...always!

Craving Recognition (Meyer)

March 8, 2020 • Pastor Joe Meyer

Sadly, our society has a propensity for “Craving Recognition” if not outright grabbing at recognition. We want to be noticed; we want to receive accolades; we want people to pay attention to us! But what the Lord has for us is “Always Better” and what the Lord has for us in this arena is honoring, praising, and glorifying Him and His holy name and not our own. Today we remember that pointing to Jesus instead of ourselves is “Always Better” and always will be!

Anxious for Nothing (Johnson)

March 1, 2020 • Pastor Ben Johnson

This is one of the harder commands from Scripture to obey. The Bible repeatedly tells us not to be anxious but to lean into something that is “Always Better,” namely, peace that passes understanding in and through the Lord Jesus. Martha struggled with anxiety but Mary seems to have it right. Mary likely knew that things needed to be done and that there was satisfaction and peace in getting those things done, but Mary also knew that spending time with Jesus was “Always Better” than any task or to-do-list and that’s what she chose. What about you? What choices are you making that affect your peace?
