Joseph suffered for decades due to his brother’s cruel decision to sell him into slavery. And yet, eventually, Joseph rose to become Pharaoh’s second-in-command with great power and authority. It was in this setting that his brothers came, not recognizing Joseph, seeking grain because of a famine. Joseph was faced with a choice of getting vengeance on the brothers who had hurt him or trusting God and forgiving them. As hard of a decision as this might seem, Joseph seems to have found it easy, because of God’s goodness. Could this be a lesson for us as well?

While Joseph and his father Jacob created some of the problems in his early home life that frustrated Jacob’s brothers, after he’s sold into slavery in Egypt, Jacob faces adversity that he didn’t cause. He’s faced with the decision to trust God and live his life with integrity or live differently and face less adversity. Which does he choose, and what difference does it make? And what can we learn from both his choices and God’s actions? We’ll explore those questions in today’s message.
