Jesus Is ____

Easter at FC 2024

Relational Health

April 21, 2024 • Kevin Brimner • Colossians 3:18—4:1

Jesus is relational with us and therefore shapes and shifts how we relate to others. Imagine the impact of your relationships, conversations, prayers, parenting, and work focused on living as Jesus lived. Your presence would be life-giving (carry you off the field at end of the game). Imagine a church committed to fully living Jesus in all our relationships–this gathering would be irresistible!

Peace

April 14, 2024 • Nathan Logsdon • Colossians 3:1–17, John 17:13–16

Your life and actions can lead and strive for a lot of different options. Paul encourages us to focus on the heavenly over the earthly, to recognize that as Jesus transforms us the response of our life changes. Paul lists fruit and expressions of our unbelief or belief through the form of lists. They are not exhaustive but directional. In versus 15-17 he presents a benediction and encouragement to bring this section to fullness through the understanding of peace.

Transformational

April 7, 2024 • Nathan Logsdon • Colossians 2:16–23, Matthew 9:14–17

There are beliefs and those who will add to the Gospel what doesn’t fit or belong. Paul warns the church in Colossae that such things are a shadow of what is actually found in Christ. The life we live and the things we do are because of the peace we have with God, not so that we can have peace with God. When Jesus does transformational work internally, we respond with our lives externally.

Good News

March 31, 2024 • Nathan Logsdon • Luke 22:20, John 14:6, Colossians 2:6–15, John 1:29

Jesus’ death on the cross covers all the sin that causes me to be spiritually dead. The Gospel of Jesus is the only Gospel. My belief in Jesus will bring transformation.

The Answer

March 24, 2024 • Nathan Logsdon • Colossians 1:24—2:5, John 15:1–17

Paul is addressing a heretical teaching that there are secrets and mysteries being kept from others. That there is some sort of insider knowledge that is not being shared. Paul says he actually has been suffering to make sure there are no secrets no longer and that others would know all of God’s mysteries are revealed through Christ.

True North

March 17, 2024 • Kevin Brimner • Colossians 1:15–23, John 1:1–18

There are 5 descriptions given to Jesus, each with its own unique unpacking of the very nature of Jesus; image of God, firstborn over all creation, head of the church, beginning, firstborn from among the dead (vv.15-18). These descriptions layer our understanding of who Jesus was. There are 3 accomplishments God delivered through Jesus; His fullness dwells in Jesus, reconciles all things to himself, peace through his blood on the cross. These accomplishments layer our understanding of what Jesus did. In light of verses 15-20 our position with God, the reality of our eternity.

Supreme

March 10, 2024 • Kevin Brimner • Colossians 1:3–14

Paul begins his letter to the church in Colossae by giving them high praise for a couple things and hopes for others. Praise for faith in Jesus and love for all people (v.4). Hopes for; knowledge that leads to action (v.9) and a life worthy of the Lord (v.10).  Paul explains what he means by a life worthy of the Lord; bearing fruit, growing in knowledge, being strengthened (v.11), giving joyful thanks (v.12). Those four things lead to endurance, patience, and an inheritance.  If someone was writing a letter about FC or about you individually, what would they write? What Unbelievable thing could be said about you because of your faith in Jesus? We are afforded an endless number of options to be known for in this world, let’s be known for something Unbelievable!
