Sunday | Overview - Revelation 3-7
December 1, 2024
In Revelation chapter 3, I drew parallels between Jesus’ messages to the churches He is writing to and the guidance a coach gives their players. He offers both criticisms and praises–urging them to overcome their weaknesses and promising to reward those who remain faithful.
To the church in Sardis, He says that while they appear lively and engaged, their works lack purpose. They are acting for show rather than to glorify God. They are cold.
Jesus praises the church in Philadelphia for overcoming weakness with faithfulness. The church here is small and seemingly not powerful, yet they endure faithfully and the Lord promises them an eternal reward. They are hot.
He warns the church in Laodicea that they are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold. They are blinded by the comfortability of mediocrity.
On the field, and more importantly, in life, are you hot, cold or lukewarm? Are you putting in the work to achieve great things in the name of Jesus? Are you getting reps in at home? Are you getting into God’s Word every day? Or are you putting it off because you’re too tired, sick, busy, etc.? Revelation chapters 4, 5, 6, and 7 talk about the glory of God and the great reward we have in heaven. Jesus has already overcome the world and is coming back! How are you preparing yourself today?
