How Does All This Work?

Like most other NT epistles/books, the author ends his book with applications. He shows us what changes should be made in the lives of his readers, as well as us, due to the doctrine expounded upon in the previous chapters.

Inherit the Kingdom Through Service

February 2, 2020 • Jordan Emswill • Hebrews 12:18–29

In his final admonition, the author urges his readership to keep seeing the invisible world and to hold onto their firstborn rights in the Kingdom. Instead of disregarding these spiritual blessings like Esau did with his birthright, they ought to cherish their spiritual blessings of sonship in the Kingdom so that they like the faithful saints of old can receive as an inheritance the unshakable Kingdom through their faithful service to God.

The Christian Pilgrim is Approved by Faith

January 12, 2020 • Jordan Emswiller • Hebrews 11:1–16

The saint that lives as a pilgrim on the earth seeking the heavenly country by faith will obtain approval from God and receive eternal rewards in the world to come. The author of Hebrews is urging his readership to look past their present suffering for Christ to the great reward that will be granted them for their perseverance in the faith toward the heavenly country. He lists examples from the saints of old who lived by faith, obtained God's approval, and received an everlasting possession in heaven.

The Superior Results of the New Priesthood

The results of the new priesthood are superior to that of the Levitical priesthood because it perfects its worshippers. The sacrificial death of Christ on the cross takes away sins once and for all as opposed to the animal sacrifices of the Old Covenant. Christ's death purges the worshipper from sin which provides complete access to God in heaven.

A Review of the Book of Hebrews

To understand any book of the Bible, one must first distinguish the trunk from the branches in order to see how the pieces of the puzzle fit together to complete the whole picture.

Christ's Superior Priestly Service

The author continues his argument of Christ's superiority as High Priest over the Levitical priests by proving that His priestly ministry is far better than the ministry of the Levitical priesthood insomuch that He serves in the true tabernacle, mediates a better covenant, and secures complete access to God.
