Standing in the Gap Through Intercessory Prayer

September 20, 2026 • Pastor Pat Findley • Genesis 18:16–33

Faith: Under Construction Week #1 What does it look like to pray boldly for a broken world? This week we explored one of Scripture's most striking moments of intercession -- Abraham standing before God, pleading for mercy on behalf of people who deserved judgment. Genesis 18 shows us that because God is holy and good, his righteous response to sin is judgment. But it also shows us a God who invites his people into conversation, who calls us friends (John 15:15), and who longs to show mercy. Abraham was burdened for those who were doomed. Are we? Who is your one -- the person in your life still outside of God's grace? Let that burden drive you to your knees. God satisfied the judgment we deserved through the loving sacrifice of Jesus. That is the hope we carry into a world that desperately needs it. Pray boldly. Pray humbly. Trust the God who always does what is right.

Week #6 of the B.L.E.S.S. Series | S: Share Your Story (Part 1) Do you know your Jesus story? The Apostle Paul stood before a king and a governor, not to defend himself, but to share how Christ completely transformed his life. His story had three simple parts: who he was before Jesus, how he met Jesus, and who he became after. Yours does too. In Acts 26, Paul models something powerful. He was respectful, honest about his past, specific about his encounter with Christ, and bold enough to invite others to follow. No manipulation, no pressure. Just a story offered with love. As Romans 10 reminds us, faith comes through hearing the message about Christ. Someone told you. Now it is your turn. Write three sentences about your life before Jesus, how you met Him, and your life since. God will open the door. The gospel is only good news if it gets there in time. B.L.E.S.S. S: Serve With Love

Week #5 of the B.L.E.S.S. Series | S: Serve With Love What does it look like to truly serve others the way Jesus did? In John 13, on the night before the cross, the King of all creation wrapped a towel around himself and washed his disciples' feet. He who deserved to be served became the servant of all. That is the standard he calls us to follow. This week in our Bless series, we explored what it means to serve with love. Not grand gestures, but everyday acts of humility: noticing a neighbor's need, lending a hand, sharing a meal, showing up. As Jesus said in John 13:17, there is blessing for those who know these things and actually do them. We also honored the life of Mary Crosswhite, whose hands were always busy serving others. E: Eat With Others

Week #4 of the B.L.E.S.S. Series | E: Eat With Others What if one of the most powerful tools for sharing our faith was already built into our daily routine? This message centers on a remarkable encounter from Matthew chapter 9, where Jesus does something that shocks the religious establishment of his day. He walks up to one of the most despised figures in his culture, a tax collector named Matthew, and simply says, 'Follow me.' What happens next is even more surprising. Matthew throws a party and fills his house with every broken, marginalized, and socially unacceptable person he knows, and Jesus pulls up a chair right in the middle of it all. The spiritual lesson here is both simple and profound. Jesus was intentional about who he shared meals with, and that intentionality changed lives. We are challenged to see every person around us as potentially ready to receive the grace of God. The fields, as Jesus described in John 4:35, are already ripe for harvest. We often wait for the perfect moment or the perfect words, but this message reminds us that sometimes the most transformative thing we can do is extend an invitation to the table. Meals create a space where walls come down, where real conversations happen, and where the love of God can move quietly and powerfully through simple human connection. L: Listen With Care

Week #3 of the B.L.E.S.S. Series | L: Listen With Care Jesus did not avoid the hard conversations or the difficult people. In John 4, He intentionally crossed every barrier — ethnic, religious, social — to meet one woman at a well and offer her something no earthly source could provide: living water that satisfies the soul forever. The Samaritan woman came looking for water. She found the Messiah. That is what the gospel does. It meets us in our ordinary moments and reveals our deepest need — not another relationship, another achievement, or another distraction, but Christ Himself. Who are you being prompted to pursue with this message? This Sunday, Pastor Ryan challenged us to stop avoiding people and start moving toward them, just as Jesus moved toward her. Listen with care. Love with intention. Lead people to Christ. Join us as we continue our BLESS series and learn what it looks like to be a blessing to our neighbors.

Pastor Pat walked us through Colossians 4:2-6 this week, challenging us to begin with prayer before anything else when it comes to loving the people around us. Paul wrote from a prison cell, not asking to be freed, but asking for an open door to share Jesus. That kind of focus changes everything. When we pray persistently, watchfully, and expectantly for the people closest to us, God sharpens our eyes to see them the way he does. The harvest is plentiful. The workers are few. Jesus said it himself in Matthew 9. The question was never whether people around us are ready. The question is whether we are willing to go. Week #1 of the B.L.E.S.S Series | Introducing the B.L.E.S.S. tool Who is your neighbor? In Luke 10, Jesus answers that question with one of history's most powerful stories -- and the answer might surprise you. The Good Samaritan did not ask whether the injured man deserved help. He simply saw a need and chose to meet it. Jesus calls us to do the same: "Go and do likewise." This week we kicked off a new six-week series called BLESS -- five everyday ways to love your neighbors as you go. Begin with prayer. Listen with care. Eat with others. Serve with love. Share your story. These are not complicated steps. They are the overflow of a heart changed by Christ. Your neighbor is anyone whose need you see, whose need God has put you in a position to meet.
