Almost 90% of America owns a Bible. The average American household has at least four Bibles, but half of the population has never read it or has seldom done so. Almost one in five churchgoers say they never read the Bible - essentially the same number who read it every day. So, as a church, we thought it would be a good time to talk about How to Read the Bible.

Sacrifices

As we conclude our This is the Bible series this week, we’re taking a second week to talk about the “bloody” Bible and looking specifically at sacrifices. Today’s text says that Jesus’ sacrifice “secured an eternal redemption” for us and “purifies our consciences” so that we might serve God. Today, we are focusing on the fact that there is an Old Testament and a New Testament, and they feel very different from one another. While the differences between the two Testaments seem significant, Jesus is the common thread throughout the Bible. The differences may not be as great as we might think.
