Choosing Sides

We are told we need to choose sides. Nothing's changed there. Even in Jesus' day, people were constantly trying to get him to choose sides. In our belief that we can disagree politically yet love unconditionally, there is a template where as Christians, we can have healthy disagreement even with diverse views all with the goal of leading people to Jesus.

Pledging Allegiance

Jesus' followers never pledged unconditional allegiance to an emperor, even the good ones. Jesus himself taught us not to put our security and trust in the things of this life. Rather, he taught us to seek first the Kingdom of God. That Kingdom value comes into conflict when we don't apply it to our political ideologies and conversations. As the church, we are called to model the kind of crazy unity the early church had.

One Is The Win

Nothing divides us like politics. We've seen a surge in political division over the years. That's not news. But as the Church, we are supposed to be united. Not politically, but in purpose. Division has a way of taking the church off the mission and focusing on things that while important, are temporal. The cool thing is that Jesus prayed for you. In this message, we take a deeper look at Jesus' prayer in John 17.
