Spiritual Certainty

As the Apostle John finishes up his letter to the church in Ephesus he’s wanting them who live surrounded by so much uncertainty, to know for certain their security of faith in Christ. He wants them to have spiritual certainty as they learn to navigate the complexities around them. He also issues a parting word that will keep them anchored to the truth and light of Jesus and help them know Him and walk with Him.

Understanding God is Love

It is widely accepted that God is love, and we know Scripture affirms this truth. The uncomfortable truth is we’ve lost sight of what God’s love really is, and this affects our ability to love others as God has loved us. What does it really mean, “God is love?”

The Apostle John challenges us to live with spiritual discernment as we navigate life to determine what is real, what is fake, who is telling the truth of God and who is just spewing the ways of the world. As followers of Jesus we’re to think critically as we stay focused on following after him. 

Love Out Loud

The Apostle John, having now reminded us to grow in our family resemblance of being a part of the family of God, calls us to prove this identity via our love for one another. It’s the call from the beginning, it’s not new, but it has an ongoing and lasting impact. We’re to love others - it’s to be our standard, not exception. We’re to follow the example of our Savior, Jesus.
