God Killed My Old Man | Episode 6 | Freedom

Grace & Truth

October 15, 2024 • Duane Sheriff • 1 Corinthians 6:9–11, Romans 6:11–22

In the sixth episode of "God Killed My Old Man," Duane Sheriff teaches freedom from sin through our new identity in Christ. Christians no longer have two natures battling within them but only one new nature in Christ.

Romans 6:11 instructs believers to "reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus." Understanding and having faith in our old sinful nature's death is crucial for overcoming sin and living in righteousness.

In 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Paul lists various sinful lifestyles and states that such people will not inherit God's kingdom. Verse 11: "And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God." Our old sinful identities have been put to death, and we now have a new, righteous nature in Christ.

Yield your body as an instrument of righteousness (Romans 6:13) rather than an instrument of sin. While we may still struggle with sin, it's no longer our true identity. Instead, we should renew our minds to our new nature in Christ and live accordingly.
