God Killed My Old Man | Episode 8 | Sin and Mercy

Grace & Truth

October 17, 2024 • Duane Sheriff • Hebrews 8:10–13, Romans 4:6–8

In the eighth episode of "God Killed My Old Man," Duane Sheriff teaches about God's incredible mercy and forgiveness under the New Covenant. Understanding this truth is another key to living a victorious Christian life. Hebrews 8:12 states, "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities I will remember no more." This verse reveals God's attitude towards believers when they sin - one of mercy, not wrath or punishment.

Jesus' sacrifice on the cross was a one-time event that covered all sins - past, present, and future. Hebrews 10:12-14 shows that Christ's single offering has perfected believers forever. This means that God has already forgiven our sins, even those we haven't committed yet.

In Romans 4:6-8 David describes the blessedness of having righteousness imputed without works. Good works don't make us righteous, and bad works don't rob us of our righteousness in Christ. Understanding this truth should motivate us to live holy lives out of love and gratitude, not fear of punishment.
