In the fourth episode of "God Killed My Old Man," Duane Sheriff teaches the transformative power of our new nature in Christ. Understanding this new identity is the key to embracing our new nature and living a victorious Christian life.

When we accept Christ, a radical change occurs. According to Ephesians 2:1-5, we were once "dead in trespasses and sins," but now we have been made alive in Christ. This change is not just an improvement of our old selves, but a complete replacement. Our old sinful nature has been crucified, and we have been given a new nature that is "righteous and truly holy."

Romans 6:11 instructs us to "reckon yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." This verse is not about constantly struggling against sin but about embracing our new identity in Christ. We are not trying to become righteous; in our new nature, we already are righteous.

Living out our new nature isn't about willpower or following rules. Instead, it's about understanding who we are in Christ and allowing that truth to transform our lives. As we renew our minds and grasp the reality of our new nature, we'll naturally desire to live holy lives that reflect our true identity in Christ.

"God Killed My Old Man" is a brand new series by Duane Sheriff that explores our identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. This understanding is crucial for Christians to walk in the power of the gospel and overcome sin. Duane shares a personal experience of an open vision of Jesus on the cross. In this vision, he saw himself united with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. This revelation led him to search the Scriptures and discover the truth about our identity in Christ. There is a difference between the "old man" in Adam, who has a sinful nature, and the "new man" in Christ, who is righteous and holy. God has crucified our old man with Christ, as stated in Romans 6:6: "Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin." Even though God has killed the old man, we still need to change our behavior and mindset. This transformation requires us to renew our minds, as mentioned in Ephesians 4:22-24: "You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." Understanding and embracing our new identity in Christ empowers Christians to overcome sin and live a renewed life.

In the second episode of "God Killed My Old Man," Duane Sheriff teaches the importance of understanding our new identity in Christ. It is vital to grasp the concept that our previous old sinful nature died with Christ, and now we are raised to new life in Him. Galatians 2:20 says, "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me." This verse illustrates how our old self has died, and we now live through Christ's life. 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." This transformation occurs in our spirit while our soul and body are still in the process of renewal. We have a three-part nature - spirit, soul, and body - as described in 1 Thessalonians 5:23. Our spirit is instantly transformed at salvation. In contrast, our soul (mind, will, and emotions) is being renewed, and our body will be fully redeemed at Christ's return. Set your mind on things above because you have died with Christ, and your life is now hidden with Him.

This death of our old self is the key to experiencing freedom from sin and living in the power of Christ. Romans 5 contrasts our former state in Adam with our new identity in Christ. Verse 19 says, "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous." Just as we inherited sin from Adam, we now inherit righteousness from Christ through faith.
