The Third Day

January 5

Matt Keller

On the third day, God gathered the waters on the earth into the oceans, seas, lakes and rivers. He also made dry land. These are the first things that the Bible tells us God called “good.”

Then God created plants. The Bible says later that God made plants as food for animals and people to eat. Genesis 1:11 tells us about this. “Then God said, ‘Let the earth grow grass, plants that make grain, and fruit trees. The fruit trees will make fruit with seeds in it. And each plant will make its own kind of seed. Let these plants grow on the earth.’ And it happened.”

But God did not make animals or people until day six — three days later! This shows us that God had a plan from the time He started creating things. Each day of creation prepared things for the next day. Everything God created affects everything else.

God clearly had a plan for how He would create everything. Any person who honestly studies the things God created can see that there was a plan and a design. These things did not just happen; God made them!

Take time to look at the world around you today. Notice all the beautiful trees and flowers that God made for you!
