Book of Genesis

January 2

Jo Krueger

In this devotion book, more than half of the devotions will be based on verses from Genesis, the first book of the Bible. The word Genesis means beginning. Genesis tells us about the beginning of the world, the beginning of sin and the beginning of God’s plan of salvation.

Moses wrote the Bible books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. He wanted God’s people, the Israelites, to always remember how God had taken care of them. Moses also wanted the Israelites to know about the faithful men and women who served God.

Hebrews, chapter 11, is often called the “Faith Chapter of the Bible.” Why? Because this chapter lists Bible people who had great faith in God. We can learn about some of the people in the list by reading the book of Genesis — Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham and many others. Hebrews 11:1-2 tells us about these people. “Faith is what makes real the thing we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see. God was pleased with the people who lived a long time ago because they had faith like this.”

Tomorrow we will start learning about God creating the world. Ask God to help your faith to grow as you study His Word.
