Traveling with Paul (8)

September 9

September 9, 2019 • Jo Krueger

The last person we will learn about who traveled with Paul is Demas. He is mentioned in Philemon 24 as someone who worked with Paul. We know that Demas was working with Paul when he wrote his letter to the Colossian Christians.

But the story about Demas is not a happy one. In 2 Timothy 4:10, Paul tells us about something sad that happened. “Demas loved this world too much. That is why he left me. He went to Thessalonica. Crescens went to Galatia. And Titus went to Dalmatia.” We don’t know for sure what happened, but it seems that Demas wanted to serve the world more than he wanted to serve God.

Serving God is not always an easy thing to do. Sometimes we may look at all the exciting things in the world and think that it would be easier to stop following God. But we need to remember that loving and serving God is the very most important thing we can do in our lives.

Maybe today you will need to make some choices about serving God or serving the world. Don’t be like Demas. Don’t stop following God. Keep focused on Him. And serve Him with all your heart, your soul, your strength and your mind.
