Saved by Grace

September 11

No person can do anything to save himself from sin. Imagine you have a piece of paper and a permanent marker. Now imagine that you write a bad word on the paper. Because the marker is permanent, you can’t erase the word. You can cover it up by marking over it, but the word is still on the paper. You can draw beautiful pictures on the paper, but the bad word is still there. The good things you write will not make the bad word disappear.

Trying to hide our sins does not erase them. And doing good things cannot erase our sins either. We need someone who can help us! The only One who can forgive our sins is God. Paul talked about this in Ephesians 2:8. “I mean that you have been saved by grace because you believed. You did not save yourselves; it was a gift from God.”

Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. That is God’s free gift to us. If we want to receive this free gift, we need to follow Jesus and obey His message in the Bible. When we accept God’s gift, He makes us a new person and gives us His Holy Spirit to help us do good things.

Do you have God’s wonderful gift of grace?
