Study on Colossians - WK8

January 17, 2024 • Rachel Bailey • Colossians 3:18—4:18

Living Life Unto The Lord   Colossians 3:18-4:18 As believers, our surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ includes a willing submission to the earthly authorities designed and established by God. Our earthly relationships should evidence our exchanging of our own lives for that of Christ. We are to do all things as unto the Lord, praying persistently, walking wisely and speaking graciously.

Study on Colossians - WK7

January 10, 2024 • Janna Pinter • Colossians 3:1–17

As we continue in Colossians, we will see Paul once again pointing to a walk that will set the church in Colossae apart from the Roman culture in which they live. In other words, while they live IN the world, they are not to be OF the world. In the text we will study tonight, Paul gives specific instructions to the family as well as for the work place. These instructions are hemmed in by these two verses which address motive and goal.  And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him Col 3:17 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, Col 3:23 The Lord calls us to a higher standard, His standard. But, He also equips us to press on toward that goal.

Putting off the Old and Putting on the New

December 13, 2023 • Janna Pinter • Colossians 3:1–17

Paul encourages the believers in Colossae to continue growing and maturing in Christ setting their minds or affections on things above. Abundant living comes only after dying. He urges the new church to put off the sinful earthly nature and to put on the new self, clothed in the characteristics of Christ. Paul not only gives these instructions but provides the means by which to accomplish them- “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.  And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
