"A Right Posture for Scripture"

Making Ourselves Available

It is safe to say that many Christians struggle with consistent scripture reading. The Bible has never been so available. Yet, we have never been so unavailable for the Bible. We make many excuses for this reality:

-We do not have the time.

-We do not understand specific passages, so we quit whenever we have difficulty.

-We do not agree with some of the Bible, so we ignore all of it.

How can we overcome this? How do we develop a love for scripture?

It is all about posture. We must consider how we position ourselves in light of scripture.

-We read scripture to know God more.

-We study not only for information but for transformation.

-We learn the scriptures so we can live them out.

"True Rest"

From the beginning, God has given us a pattern of how to do life. Man was intended to work six days and rest for one day. What does this mean for us? -We are to work hard at all we do. Christians should be marked by the excellence of our work. Laziness has no place in our lives. -We are to work from our rest, not work so we can rest. Christians are not called to be workaholics. We must enjoy the blessings of God by taking a true break from work to worship. Rest means we enjoy God. We lean into His goodness and take delight in all that He has done for us. In our fast-paced, loud world, this means we must unplug and just be with Him. True rest can happen if we walk in the pattern God laid for us.

"The Authority of Scripture"

Knowing scripture and doing scripture are two separate things. Our head knowledge must move to our heart, which then moves our hands and feet. Our willingness to be open to this hinges upon whether or not we believe God's word to be authoritative in our lives. God's authority is love. It is foundational in His desire for us to have salvation, forgiveness, and a life of meaning.
