The Story of the Bible

This is the first week of our 2020-21 Sundays@9 adult education class at Creekside Community Church. This year's class is using CASKET-EMPTY, an excellent survey of the entire Bible. This week's class introduces the acronym CASKET-EMPTY and provides a very high-level overview of the cohesive, redemptive narrative of Scripture.

CASKET-EMPTY continues with A-Abraham. The promises God made to Abraham begin to be realized and reaffirmed in the lives of Isaac, Jacob and the twelve sons of Israel.

God Rescues and Reveals | Week 6

CASKET-EMPTY continues with S-Sinai. God reveals his character in the dramatic rescue from Egypt and in the giving of his law at Mt. Sinai.

God Dwells with His People | Week 7

CASKET-EMPTY continues with S-Sinai. God gives instructions on the law and how to build a tabernacle so he may dwell with his people.

Atonement through Sacrifice | Week 8

November 15, 2020 • Eric Olson

CASKET-EMPTY continues with S-Sinai. The sacrificial system was instituted to provide Israel with atonement for their sin, but was ultimately inadequate and points to the future perfect fulfillment in Christ. Israel wanders in the wilderness for 40 years after the bad report from the 10 of the 12 spies.

Onward under Joshua | Week 9

CASKET-EMPTY continues with S-Sinai. The Israelites enter the Promised Land under Joshua, finally realizing the promises of land and descendants made to Abraham. Throughout the first four hundred years in the land, the people follow God when they have a leader but fall away when he or she dies. However, God is working behind the scenes through two widows to fulfill his promise to bring a coming king.

God's Anointed King | Week 10

CASKET-EMPTY continues with K-Kings. The story of Israel continues as the last in the line of judges, Samuel is born and set apart as a prophet. The Israelites ask Samuel to appoint a king so they can be like the other nations around them. So God gives them what they asked for, Saul. Yet, God had a plan to raise up a king after his own heart.

Solomon Builds the Temple | Week 11

In the midst of Solomon's incredibly fruitful years as king, a few small concessions remain unchecked and lead to disaster.
