Empowering People
August 16, 2026 • Shannon Chapman • Ephesians 4:11–16
We wrap up our series, “Build the House,” and Pastor Shannon reminds us that an empowered church isn’t built around a few people doing everything; it’s built when everyone discovers their purpose, finds their people, and plays their part!
Celebration of Life for Barry Craig Eaton
August 16, 2026
Barry Craig Eaton, 70, passed away peacefully on August 3rd 2026, when he was called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was born on June 19th, 1956 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Elwood “Woody” and Myrtle “Sally” Eaton.
He was a life-long resident of Chattanooga and was a graduate of both Hixon High School and Lee University.
Professionally, Barry worked in the prepress industry for Dockins Graphics - a printing division of Pathway Press - in Cleveland, TN where he was a graphic designer specializing in production of books and magazines.
Barry gathered strength every day from his relationship with Jesus! Strength that helped him deal with the cancer and other health issues he had with grace and dignity. He never complained about his pain here on Earth. Pain that is now gone forever!
He was an integral part of his River Church family in downtown Chattanooga for many years. He will always be remembered by the close relationships he made there and for the red suspenders he wore without fail!
He loved and was loved by his Tres Dias community of Southeast TN and beyond! Barry embodied the main teaching of Tres Dias which is “God’s unqualified love for each of us through His grace.”
In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by his sister Myra Hawes and brother David Eaton.
Those left to cherish his memory include his nephews Bradley Eaton (Samantha), Samuel Eaton and Eric Hawes.
Friends, family and co-workers are invited to Barry’s memorial service at City Church, 7122 Lee Hwy., in Chattanooga on Sunday, August 16th at 4:00.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to River Church at http://riverchurch.me/ or Tres Dias at http://tdsetn.org/.

The Beginning of Wisdom
June 14, 2026 • Shannon Chapman • Proverbs 1:7
Proverbs shows us the path of wisdom, but Jesus personifies wisdom. This week, we learn that wisdom is not merely a principle to follow but a Person to know!
The book of Proverbs can be framed around two roads: the way of wisdom and the way of foolishness. Pastor Shannon begins the series by reminding us that Proverbs points to Jesus, the One who is wisdom.
