Facing Temptation

Today’s Scripture passage, Jesus faces temptation as a way of preparing himself for his upcoming public ministry. Given the chance to abuse his power and his ability, he had to decide what kind of Messiah he would be. Would his motivation be personal power or fame or prestige?

Here are the three temptations Jesus faced:

· Stones Into Bread

· Jumping Off the Temple

· Bow Down to Satan

This episode was far from being a random event that happened in the wilderness somewhere. And the result was far from being a forgone conclusion. This was a test of Jesus’ resolve, his priorities, and his commitment to humility and service instead of self-serving fame and fortune.
