The Christmas narrative is found in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. Instead of presenting a narrative of the events, John deals with the theology of Christmas in a way that Matthew and Luke don’t. John reveals Jesus as someone more than a newborn baby. He is a holy God breaking into our dark, fearful, faithless world- Immanuel. John writes of three aspects of Immanuel. Into a self-centered, sin-polluted world of humans came a sacred, holy, transcendent humble Savior to live with you and repair the brokenness of your heart. The Christmas story is a story of love, a story of rescue, and a story of selfless sacrifice all wrapped up into one. That’s the wonder of Christmas.
