Tolerance is a familiar word in today’s vocabulary. To be tolerant is to allow something to exist without resistance. In many circumstances, tolerance is a good thing. In the medical realm, we tolerate invasive tests and embarrassing exams, knowing that in reality they are good for us. In our spiritual lives, we are asked to tolerate each other, even though we irritate each other once in a while. But some things, like sin and deception, aren’t to be tolerated, as we will see in today’s letter.
