This week begins a new series in the Old Testament book of Genesis. Today’s text, Genesis 1-2, might be the most information packed chapters in the entire Bible. In two chapters we go from nothing to a fully and perfectly created universe, earth, plants, animals, and two human beings. While it is impossible to cover all this information in one message, let’s try to hit the highlights and end with some more detailed observations.

08-22-21 Coming Full Circle

The main characters in Joseph’s story are Joseph, his brothers, and his father Jacob. Within the larger story of Joseph’s life, each of these characters have their own individual storylines. This week we’ll see how God manages to not only bring each character’s storyline full circle, but simultaneously set the stage for the emergence of the Israelite nation, which lays the foundation for the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

In this middle section of Joseph’s life, things go from bad to worse. Seized by his brothers, sold into slavery, wrongly accused of impropriety, and thrown into prison, it would have been easy to give up and forget about his faith.

Instead of dissecting the narrative or doing a character study of one of the people in the story, let’s focus our attention on something different that the story tells- the interpersonal relationship dynamics of Joseph’s family.
