Justifying Joppa

This week, Pastor Joie Miller preaches from The Book of Jonah, a biblical showcase of the consequences of pursuing what we want to do versus what we are called to do. After God instructed Jonah to go to Nineveh, Jonah fled from the seaport at Joppa instead. While Jonah tried to use his feelings towards the Ninevites to justify his actions, God had called him to go because he wanted him to grow. This year, reflect on the Joppas you’re justifying. Like Jonah, God will take you through to get you to.

Abundant Rain

Although he didn’t see it physically, Elijah bowed down in the presence of God, earnestly praying for what he knew God had in store. The presence of God transforms you, your perspective, and your circumstances. As you’re believing for your harvest, dwell in God’s presence. Like Elijah, engage deeply in prayer, persevere, and believe fully that abundant rain is coming your way.

A new year means new resolutions like making healthier choices or saving money. As followers of Jesus, we are responsible for making spiritual changes in our lives as well. After all, transformation is what God is all about! This year, prioritize and consecrate yourself to God’s Kingdom with more time to pray, give, and fast. By dedicating yourself to spiritual disciplines, you are planting seeds of obedience that will yield a harvest for the rest of the year. So, fast forward! Be consistent, be persistent, and set your expectations on a divine breakthrough for 2025!

Failure Isn't Final

Are you familiar with Peter's life? From falling asleep in the Garden of Gethsemane when asked to watch and pray to denying knowing Jesus not once but three times–Peter was certainly no stranger to defeat. Despite Peter’s shortcomings, he wasn’t disqualified from being used by God. This week, Executive Director Jeff Hancher shares part of his own testimony to highlight the powerful reminder that if your life isn’t good, God’s not done. Like with Peter, failure doesn't disqualify us, rather it can prepare us to fulfill God’s mission for our lives. If you’re feeling broken or regretful– be encouraged that though failure may set you back, failure isn’t final.

The Christmas story is full of instances that highlight God's goodness. This week, in his sermon, "Hope-fully," Pastor Nathan Miller shares the story of the shepherds—the part of the Christmas story that can give us peace and joy! God intentionally chose shepherds who may have been the least likely people for Him to show up to—to build our faith. The life of shepherds was messy but it can illustrate how God shows up in the middle of our mess. He shows up in our darkest hours to shine the brightest light and to give us hope. So, this Christmas season, don't forget--put your hope in the one who gave you the promise because He will fulfill it and bring it to pass!

On The Move

This Christmas season, reflect on the intentionality of God. He understands His work in and through us, and often, it's in the journey to fulfillment that God shapes us more into His likeness. The journey makes us who we are and who He has always intended us to be. It's in seeking God and hungering and desiring more of Him that we discover a life beyond ourselves. God is on the move, and just as He did on the journey to welcome the birth of our Messiah, He is leading the way.

Though their circumstances naturally made their promise seem impossible, they stayed connected to God's presence while their focus remained on Him. What do you do when you've waited but haven't seen your promise come to pass? Do you carefully obey and serve Him faithfully? Whether you have or haven't received an answer to your prayers, God is worthy of all praise. Remember, just as in Luke 1, God is faithful. He is able, and He has been working all along.
