Jesus is clear that no one will be able to predict the timing of his return. Jesus says that his return and judgment will be unexpected and therefore he encourages his disciples to “stay awake” and “be ready” by living faithful lives for him rather than obsessing about dates and times. He warns his disciples against living worldly lives as though a judgment will never come.

Good and Faithful Servants

Jesus tells his disciples a parable to help them to understand how they can be prepared for his return. We are called to use our gifts as a reflection of God’s character that we can bring him glory. As we eagerly anticipate his return, we are called to be faithful servants with what God has entrusted to us.
