Is adversity in our future? There is a lot of fear about what lies before us. Malcomn Muggeridge said, Contrary to what might be expected, I look back on experiences that at the time seemed especially desolating and painful with particular satisfaction. Indeed, I can say with complete truthfulness that everything I have learned in my 75 years in this world, everything that has truly enhanced and enlightened my experience, has been through affliction and not through happiness. Whatever lies before us, God has opportunities for us to shine for Christ. Pastor Ken

"Behind all the events and human plans recounted in the story of Joseph lies the unchanging plan of God. Through his dealings with the patriarchs and Joseph, God had continued to bring about his good plan. He had remained faithful to his purposes, and it is the point of this narrative to show that his people can continue to trust him and to believe that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” John Sailhamer

Every journey has a lot of steps from preparation to the actual journey. Any successful trip requires planning and preparation. The wise men journeyed to Jerusalem with intention - "Where is he who is born king of the Jews . . . for we have come to worship him." (Matthew 2:2). They were seeking the Lord - do you in your life? Are you intentional about your relationship with Christ? Make 2020 different. "Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near." (Isaiah 55:6) Pastor Ken

God has placed us here in Central New York and he has a plan for us. Peter said, "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." (1 Peter 2:9) We have proclaimed his goodness in the past and we will continue to do so by his grace. Pastor Ken

When Christ left us to return to the Father, he didn't leave us on our own. He doesn't expect us to follow him in our own strength. He gave us his Spirit to empower us and lead us. All we have to do is ask him to lead us and empower us through his Spirit and he will! Jesus said, "What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:11-13) Pastor Ken

Patrick Smith, a commercial airline pilot who flies Boeing 757’s and 767’s, has noticed that flyers' number 1 anxiety is turbulence. So much about it seems dangerous, Smith argues that from the perspective of the pilot, turbulence is often a mere blip on the screen. The plane will not flip upside-down or go into a tail spin. It's just a pocket of air - a nuisance. Even though it feels much worse than it is. Life is like that - we will all experience turbulence from time to time. However, with Christ as our pilot - we will safely make it to the gate and home. (John 14:1-3) Pastor Ken

There was once a Muslim college student who came to believe in Jesus Christ. One of his friends was shocked and asked him, “Why did you become a follower of Jesus?” Here was his response: “It’s simple really. Imagine that you’re walking down a road and you come to a fork in the road and there are two people there to follow as your guide along the way. One of them is dead, and one of them is alive. Which one would you follow?” Christ is Risen! Pastor Ken

Lying is epidemic in our culture. Tragically, lying is a much more difficult road to walk than telling the truth. You may get away with the deceit temporarily, but somehow, eventually it will be revealed. The price associated with it may be more expensive than just telling the truth. Additionally, lying demands a great memory. When you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything. Paul instructs us to tell the truth to one another because we belong to each other. Love demands that we tell the truth. Practice it and enjoy the freedom of truth. (John 8:32) Pastor Ken

2019 is upon us and we have been given another opportunity to grow in Christ. We tend to fall into ruts and before you know it, time has gone by and we haven't really made any progress in the gospel. Intentionality is necessary for growth personally and spiritually. Solomon said, "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life." (Proverbs 4:23) It's never too late. C.S. Lewis said, "You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending." Let's change our direction and make an impact for Christ and his kingdom. More and more researchers are finding that gratitude doesn't just make you feel like a better person, it's actually good for your health. Professor and researcher Robert A. Emmons puts it this way: "Clinical trials indicate that the practice of gratitude can have dramatic and lasting effects in a person's life. It can lower blood pressure, improve immune function and facilitate more efficient sleep." The Bible says, "It is good to give thanks to the Lord!" Not only is it a good thing to do because God is good and is worthy of our gratitude, but it is good for us as well. Let's be thankful! Pastor Ken

When Peter was confronted about going to the Gentiles, he gave a full report of all that God had done. "When they heard these things, they fell silent. And they glorified God saying, "Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life." (Acts 11:18). We all have testimonies of all that God has done in us and through us. Don't shy away from giving your testimony because it leads to joy and encouragement. May you be encouraged and glorify God through all he did in Colombia on our mission trip. Pastor Ken
