God gives Pharaoh final details of how he will be conquered and go down to the Pit—joining the God rejecting nations of Assyria, Elam, Meshech, Tubal and Edom in “hell.” They taunt him—revealing a conscious existence in a fixed destiny beyond death. Chapter 33 provides God’s instructions for national repentance, and is, thus, the transition from all the judgments against Jerusalem and the nations up to this point—preparing the way for all the prophesies concerning Israel’s bright future and restoration to the land in the remainder of Ezekiel.
