There is something about the human heart that blind to its own faults and sin, wants to accuse God of being unfair when he breaks forth in judgment. The Jews were trying to say the only reason they were being judged is because their fathers had sinned and now they had to pay for it. But God does not do that, nor does He take any pleasure in sending judgment. He judges individuals—regardless of what their fathers have done. His solution for them is “a new heart and a new Spirit”—available to all in Jesus Christ.
